Grade system or Caste system?

Grading is a common method of determining students “capability”. This has proven out to be one of the worst curses of mankind. The space for passion of work has ceased existence as the grade determine your ability to select a career and has trash ed human passion.

This system has caused the separation of students into innumerable divisions such as toppers , medochor and failures.We have to clearly understand as humans that grading depends only upon your memory ability and not your potential or capabilities.

In the past the world has seen people who have followed the true path of life , their passion and have succeeded greatly. Their grades did not hinder to achieve their goals.

Looking back upon the topic of castes created by grades, this separation clearly creates a wall between good memory and average memory. It cleanly hinders the possibilities of unity amongst students setting up a caste system like the Vedic ages.

Very often has the world seen in front of their eyes a person below average memory been insulted as a ” failure”. This very word proves to us that the wall is only growing and if not acted upon will soon bring the social downfall among humans. Dividing them .

Not only division but the waststage of talent and potential is a critical situation to be a addressed . The grades determine the amount of career choices cuts short the chances EG. science passionate students with probably a lower memory to move away from science.

Destruction of this interest is clearly not what we as people will be willing to see and need to move on to a more comprehensive method and cease grading system.

A possible solution can be application and skill based acknowledgement along with amplitude tests to address strengths and weaknesses not only in memory but also other fields of world duty.

  1. Sohom your blogs are so inciting and motivating. There are no words to describe how great your blog is!!!

    It is something that is an eye opener to what is happening around us, especially in competitive educational systems.

    We should definitely take the effort to break that wall of grading.

    For eg:
    The atom of an element holds a large and intense amount of energy.

    But only radioactive elements like uranium are used for nuclear energy because it is easier to bombard their atom.

    The same analogy applies here, where those with good memory power are treated as radioactive elements and glorified, while those with normal memory are considered normal elements and thus dejected as mediocre and failure.

    But we must remember that all atoms have the same amount of energy (i.e. all people have same potential) and there is no way they can not succeed.


  2. Absolutely, the states and federal government have already determined the standards needed for the curriculum areas. Now schools and parents and students need to be convinced that the currency they are using is creating a false narrative. To add to your thoughts, many students do not learn the material and are rewarded for good student behaviors while my knowledgeable students who have acquired the skills lack the motivation to apply them consistently. I will often have low skilled, less apt students with A’s due to the way many classrooms (including my own) are set up. Teachers provide hoops to jump through and many of them are of a done/not done nature. Anyway, I enjoyed your post.

  3. A very thoughtful post. I enjoyed it, perhaps because of confirmation bias. I have a terrible memory! It worries me that students are increasingly defined by their grades. It limits human potential. When my child was young, he enjoyed physics and was quite good at it but he was not good enough to compete against the high flyers who were only studying it to improve their tertiary entrance score.
